Trippy Cartoon Indents

The Simpsons on FX Introduces Refreshed Promos for the Iconic Show

The idea of putting a spin on something considered iconic can be daunting, especially when it is still very much prevalent in modern society, but The Simpsons on FX has managed to embrace a bit of a rebranding in order to be promoted on the network. Appealing to the superfan, the tag line is "Every. Simpsons. Ever." Yet appealing to the superfan meant staying true to the core of the show.

The Simpsons on FX did so by taking on artistic, trippy introductions -- better known as indents in the industry. PJ Richardson, creative director at Laundry, the Los Angeles studio chosen to design the idents, relays just how intimidating the work was: "Even more challenging was that FX really wanted to do something completely different within even the graphic language of The Simpsons, while retaining the key elements — the linework, the colors, yellow especially, the patterns."

Yet they succeeded by poring over archival material in order to inform the what essentially is "a Groening fever dream."
