Expandable Multi-Layered Homes

The Folding Dream House Transforms From a Cube to a Home

The Folding Dream House is an expandable and modular home. At its most compact shape, it takes on a fully-enclosed cubic structure. Users can expand the house into a multi-layered structure that combines outdoor and indoor living into one perfect harmony.

Designed by Michael Jantzen, a multidisciplinary artist based in New Mexico, the Folding Dream House merges sustainability, architecture, and technology for a unique modular design. The house consists of two prefabricated, portable modules mounted atop an elevated triangular foundation. "These panels can be folded open or closed in many different ways around the modules in order to accommodate various functional and/or aesthetic requirements," according to the designer. Once expanded, the house's interior portion is roughly the size of a hotel room.
