Rugged Character Makeovers

Negura Nicolae Gave These Icons a New Look in 'The Fashion Project'

Behance user Negura Nicolae took iconic characters and gave them a rugged makeover in his illustration series 'The Fashion Project.' Their new look takes away from the picture-perfect idea we grew up with. Instead of being clean shaven, modest-looking characters, their imperfections are now front and center. This series makes our favorite heroes seem more realistic and relatable to people we see every day.

Superman still looks stunning in his thick-rimmed glasses and super shorts, but his whole upper body and one of his thighs are covered in tattoos. It's a good look, but it's definitely not how we'd imagine our incorruptible Kryptonian hero to look. Betty Boop smokes a cigarette and looks like she's up to mischief; Goku is a mess and Popeye seems a little too lazy.

'The Fashion Project' by Nicolae is truly an original depiction of these iconic characters. They seem more realistic with their imperfections and the detail in the illustrations is so intense.
