The Circle Project

The Circle Project

The Circle Project is series of hand-made drawings created simply using a compass and coloured marker pens. Produced between February and July 2006 by recent graduate of the Royal College of Art: Richard Sarson. There are over 1000 circles drawn for each piece with the colours chosen completely at random. The drawings take a digital, mathematic approach but are created using simple, physical tools.

Implications - In this technology-based world, it is rare to see art created in its most basic form via simple and traditional tools such as pencils. Even when images are created using these tools, digital manipulation always seems to have a hand in the finishing touches. Many artists and art appreciators are nostalgic for a time when art was a simple expression only accomplishable by few, so a recent uprising in manually produced art can be seen.
