Pixelated Iconic Movie Scenes

The Challengers Appear Series Centers Around Video Game Characters

The Challengers Appear series may have been created with video gamers in mind, but it will appeal to film buffs as well. Commissioned by PlayStation to celebrate the release of the All-Stars Battle Royale game, it recreates iconic movie moments with video game characters. For instance, Rocky Balboa is replaced with a fat Princess at the entrance to the Philadelphia Museum of Art while Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence are taken over by Kratos and Sackboy in the final match in 'Karate Kid.'

Illustrated by British pixel artist Aled Lewis, The Challengers Appear series falls in line with his past work including Video Games vs. Real Life. Lewis reflects on his choice to mix films and video games, "It can be a challenge, but then every now and then you see a link between two disparate things and you can link them visually and people look and understand the references you’ve made.
