Google's 'Teachable Machine' Lets Any User Train an AI System

Despite all the recent hubbub about artificial intelligence eventually conquering human intelligence, machines are currently quaintly far off from that goal, but Google's 'Teachable Machine' project is hoping to close that gap, however incrementally. The game lets any user with a camera help to train the tech company's image recognition algorithm by getting it to associate user behavior with various silly images.

The game is simple enough. First, users are instructed to wave their hand while pressing a green button, which teaches the program to bring up a random cat GIF when that wave happens. Next, users simply sit and do nothing while holding down another button, which in turn teaches the machine when users aren't inputting anything. Once done, no more buttons are necessary — the algorithm will automatically recognize whether the user is waving and send the related cat GIF.
