Crop-Monitoring Robots

The Tarzan Robot Makes It Easier for Farmers to Monitor Their Crops

Although this invention was designed to make the lives of farmers more efficient, the Tarzan robot was inspired by an unlikely animal -- the sloth. Created by a team from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Tarzan the Robot hangs from high wires to watch over farm crops in an effort to reduce manpower. This addresses some of the strain being placed on the agriculture industry as food demand increases along with population growth.

The Tarzan robot is supposed to swing from wires, sloth-like, to monitor crop yields and take pictures. In the future, the team hopes Tarzan the Robot will be entirely solar powered as well.

Technological developments have long benefited farming, and now robotics and automation continue this pattern.
