New technologies like 3D printing are helping designers to come up with new and interactive projects like the one created by artists Chloë McCormick and Nicholas O'Donnell-Hoare titled Tapestry Spectacle. Thanks to its weaving characteristic, these glasses might become a favorites.
To produce a frame that could be customized by users, the designers combined an ancient tradition of weaving with a modern one like 3D printing. They explain in the site MocoLoco, "Through designing the frames to be hand customized to fit the culture and surrounding in which they sit, we have embarked on a journey to design a pair of spectacles, which could change the way we connect with our belongings." With the help of a 3D printer, this technological tapestry consists of a frame that has holes everywhere for customers to weave colored wool through it, and thus, create a unique design.
Tapestry Spectacles will be shown to the public at the exhibition Send to Print / Print to Send at the Aram Gallery in London, UK from January 13th to February 25th, 2012.
