Literal Typefaced Advertising

The SVA Take it On Campaign Employs an In-Your-Face Visual Strategy

Typography provides designers with incredible freedom to express their imaginative ideas, but how often do you see it applied in the way that it is in the SVA Take it On campaign? In promotion of New York City's School of Visual Arts, this series of print advertisements certainly captures your attention.

The red tentacles of an octopus literally grab the face of a man, spelling the name of the institution with its loopy suctioning limbs. A female model seems to be growing extra facial hair, in such a way that it forms elegant letters to make the same words. In the final poster of the SVA Take it On campaign, a young guy appears to have an embossed face with block characters. This is an engrossing marketing strategy by Jessica Walsh and Stefan Sagmeister.
