Soothing Song Stones

This Stress Relief Device Monitors Your Heartbeat and Plays Relaxing Music

This non-medicinal stress relief solution can fit in the palm of your hand. Stress and anxiety are medical conditions many suffer with daily. Developed by researchers from the University of Bath, the Breathing Stone is a hand-held electronic device that gages your anxiety levels by monitoring your heart beat and playing soothing songs.

The design concept is a non-invasive stress relief tool created not just by researchers Paul Leonard and Chris Clarke, but by music composer Joseph Hyde and David Plans from Adaptive Media (an entertainment and healthcare startup). It detects pulse and breathing patterns and generates relaxing music in real time to reflect and help adjust the holder's physiological state.

Funded by the REACT hub, the Breathing Stone was recently showcased at the London Design Festival at Christie's.
