Glass and lighting have gone together since Thomas Edison first released the electric light bulb, but designer Stefan Diez and Vibia, a lighting brand, have partnered to reimagine the interplay between the medium and concept. The series of lamps explore how glass channels light itself -- rather than simply serving as a casing for lighting elements, the glass carries the flow of light and alters how it projects.
As far as vision is concerned, light appears to collect at the edges of glass. Knowing this, Stefan Diez and Vibia found ways to manipulate glass and take advantage of that property. The team cut ridges and etchings into two different types of glass shapes, causing the light project into them to disperse in ethereal, haunting auras.
