This Photo was Stitched Together from 2 MillionTelescope Images

A collection of images from the NASA Spitzer Space Telescope have been stitched together to create a staggering, gigantic space panorama that includes more than half of the galaxy’s stars.

The otherworldly image was created from more than a decade’s worth of infrared images (over 2 million individual images), and aside from looking incredibly pretty, it will also help further our understanding of the structure and formation of stars in the Milky Way.

The 360-degree space panorama mosaic represents the first time this collection of images have been stitched together into a single image. If it were to be printed out, the required billboard would need to be as big as the Rose Bowl Stadium. However, NASA have hosted the image on a webpage for viewing.
