The Songjiang Hotel is Built Straight into an Abandoned Quarry

Taking advantage of an abandoned quarry in Shanghai, China, architecture firm Atkins designed the Songjiang Hotel. The surreal accommodation fully integrates the quarry into its design as it's built straight into a sheer wall. Since the quarry is filled with water, it acts as a secluded sanctuary complete with a peaceful lake.

The Songjiang takes advantage of its prime location by presenting visitors with some amazing features. Atkins designed the hotel to have a giant waterfall that drops off from the top of the building into the artificial lake below. In addition, the architecture firm planned for a sports facility that features rock climbing and bungee jumping straight off the quarry.

In addition to bein technologically advanced, the building is also eco-friendly. The Songjiang plans to use geothermal power to keep the hotel running.
