Solar Powered Roads

The DoE Hands Over a $100,000 Contract to Solar Roadways

It seems as though covering the world in futuristic roads is at the tip of our fingers. Just recently the Department of Energy handed over a $100,000 contract to Solar Roadways, a company that specializes in making solar powered panels for the road.

The Solar Roadway panels are 12x12 feet in size, and are meant to be embedded into roads where electricity can easily be generated. Solar Roadway claims that with the use of solar powered roads, there would be an end to fossil fuel dependency and a drastic reduction in greenhouse gases.

Do you think the government is wasting their money on perfectly good roads? Or do you think it is an intelligent approach to highway infrastructure as it would pay for itself (in the end)?
