Removed Smartphone Portraits

This Somber Photoseries Shows Society's Dependence on Technology

Photographer Eric Pickersgill shows in these smartphone portraits how society's odd dependence towards mobile technology interferes with our daily interactions.

The 'Removed' photo project is a series of black and white smartphone portraits where in each the device has been removed from the frame, leaving each of the subjects holding nothing but thin air in their hands. By removing the electronic element, Pickersgill presents his audience with the unsettling image of intent focus towards nothing, and puts front and center the lack of interaction between individuals that has become far too common in this day and age.

Pickersgill became inspired to take on this art project after seeing a family in a cafe all using different smartphones, and essentially ignoring one another in favor for each of their personalized electronic devices.
