Apple has filed a recent patent for a line of smart rings that will expand upon its wearable technology products. Adapting the Apple watch into an even smaller device, the iRing will wrap sleekly around a single finger with a screen either enclosed in the band or mounted on top like a miniature TV.
Its functions will be many, with voice and gesture control capabilities and even the potential to track the writing movement of the wearer to record digital notes. The smart rings will be used largely to control external devices like computers and cell phones.
Though larger wrist wearables are becoming quite common, the benefit of the ring lies in its simpler interface that facilitates faster methods for controlling other devices. The rings could also take biometric measurements, like heart rate, which would eliminate a person's need for other wrist wearables boasting similar functions.
