Ulcer-Detecting Insoles

Bonbouton Developed a Graphene-Based Smart Insole to Help Diabetics

Linh Le developed smart insole technology to help diabetics as part of a doctorate in chemical engineering. Since then Le started the Bonbouton company, which sells the smart insole technology. The technology directly helps diabetics manage skin ulcers, and subscriptions can range from $25-50 a month.

The technology operates by planting insoles into shoes that have a network of graphene-based sensors that are able to measure changes related to pressure as well as skin temperature. Measurements are taken all throughout the sole and can detect changes in the user's foot. The system is able to detect if inflammation has occurred, where it subsequently alerts an app, that is available for either iOS or Android. The app can then direct the user as to what precautions to take, or it can notify a doctor or family member.
