The Wilson Smart Basketball is a basketball embedded with sensors that track how many shots players make from different positions around the court. The Smart Basketball uses Wilson's 'Make/Miss' tracking technology in conjunction with a companion smartphone app. The technology was developed with help from Finnish technology company SportIQ, which specializes in sports performance tracking equipment.
Players can view their shot success from the two-point and three-point ranges as well as the free throw line. The app provides a heat map that shows the player which part of the court they performed well in, and which areas need a little work.
With the Wilson Smart Basketball, players don't need to have dedicated analysts and statisticians to collect and monitor their performance data. Wilson says the Smart Basketball will be made available by the end of the year.
