Sliding Roof Houses

The All-Glass Residence by dRMM Boasts a Retractable Exterior

The sliding roof of the appropriately dubbed Sliding House is something that rethinks the traditional architectural model in a big way. It is essentially a unique solution to the creation of a glass house. For those moments that require privacy, the sliding roof is closed to ensure that prying eyes are shut away. When open, however, the house can be likened to a large greenhouse.

Designed by dRMM, the sliding roof can be found in Suffolk, United Kingdom. The sliding roof weighs an impressive 20 tons, which is moved on hidden tracks by four electric motors. Made out of steel, timber, insulation and unstained larch, the entire structure takes on the form of an iconic house.
