Ballpoint Pen Artwork

Richard Sarson's Mundane Medium

Richard Sarson concentrates on the big picture and not on the details of how to get there or which medium to use to explore shapes.

Sarson uses simple materials--like a compass, thread, ballpoint pen, or marker--to make complex designs. A ballpoint pen was used to make the circle of lines drawn edge to edge on newsprint that appears first in the gallery. But despite how simple his work sounds, one miscalculation or slip, and Sarson's piece of art is a disaster.
