DraftFCB Used a Robot to Sign a Card with Thousands of Real Signatures

Each year, the people of DraftFCB sign a card and donate to the Coalition for the Homeless on behalf of its clients, colleagues and friends — which is about 3,700 people. To add a personal touch, DraftFCB decided that if donations were to be made on the behalves of these people, they should get to sign the card. Collecting nearly 4,000 signatures is a daunting task, but not if a robot is put up to it.

DraftFCB created ‘Out Gift From You,’ a site where people could visit and virtually sign their names. The signatures were transformed with vector-recognition and sent to a machine that replicated the signatures in very human ways, like adding the dot on an "i" and a cross to a "t" after the rest of the name was finished.

One of DraftFCB’s clients is Sharpie and a black Sharpie marker was used by the robotic arm to pen these signatures, which helps to reiterate that this giant holiday card is being signed on behalf of DraftFCB clients.
