The TetraPOT is a Living Solution to Sea Defense Around the World

Inspired by the look of concrete pylon sea defense structures, designer Sheng-Hung Lee and his team came up with the TetraPOT. Realizing that many of the heavy-duty existing systems to protect oceanic shorelines are not all that effective, the creatives came up with a much gentler solution.

TetraPOTs are aquatic planters made from decomposing material. Their tetrahedral shapes ensure stability and support, guiding the roots and stems of the plants inside in the proper directions. Once the seedlings of the mangrove-like greenery have taken into expanding marine plants, adjacent organisms intertwine to form integrated and robust ecosystems.

Inventions like this sea defense system are easy to produce and install and can thrive all on their own. This industry continues to require more research and investment for the good of our immediate environments and our planet as a whole.
