The Big Bang Fair's Science of Santa Chart Shares St. Nick's Magic

For years, people have been using math and science to calculate ‘The Science of Santa’ and just how Santa is able to achieve the magic he does on Christmas Eve, as well as some of the logistics throughout the rest of the year.

This year, The Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair and the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) took it upon themselves to calculate some interesting stats for 2013 — like that this year alone, presents will cost Santa a staggering £279.27 billion, which is £30 billion more than the GDP of Finland.

The infographic includes other facts, like that the 1.6 million miles of gift wrap used will be able to wrap around the earth 60 times. CEBR economist Daniel Solomon notes: "As our calculations confirm, the organisation and commitment which Santa and his elves display every year is incredible."

In preparation for the upcoming Big Bang Fair in March 2014, these fun calculations are a fantastic way to incite some wonder and inspire young engineers, scientists and mathematicians to conduct some calculations about Santa on their own.
