The Eco-Friendly Samu Dog Robot Turns Pet Waste into Compost

Japan-based Tohoku Kankyo is selling the Samu dog robot trash can. The composting robot is designed to resemble a dog and can handle both food leftovers and pet poo. The unit uses an additive and heat to compost the waste that it’s fed.

While it’s fine for ornamental gardens, pet poo shouldn’t be added to a non-heated compost bin or used in food gardens since it may contain harmful bacteria and parasites. Composting with heat can kill the harmful pathogens, but the process should be verified first.

The $900 Samu dog robot trash can is only available in Japan or from specialty importers.
