Illusionary 3D Crosswalks

These Geometric Optical Illusion Road Decals Inspire Safer Crossings

Mother and daughter design duo Saumya and Shakuntala Pandyao leverage design to bring safer crossings to street corners with a set of 3D optical illusion road decals. The designs prompt drivers to yield better to pedestrians with a 3D design that resembles a roadblock to on-coming drivers. The idea is that the optical illusion will prompt drivers to instinctively yield at the crosswalk while under the impression they might hit a solid object if they don't stop.

The 3D crosswalks are designed to take the place of plain and simplistic white lines that are currently the only marker of where cars should yield to pedestrians on the road. The newly designed optical illusion decals play around with shape and depth of perception to create what appears to be road blocks in the middle of the streets to prompt drivers to stop.
