Spherical Runway Airport Designs

This Circular Runway Design Reduces the Instance of Issues

Designed by Henk Hesselink of the Netherlands Aerospace Centre, this runway design is a conceptual take on what it might look like if airports adopted a spherical aesthetic.

The airport design consists of far fewer straight lines and sees the main runway designed with a circular aesthetic that reduces the creation of wake turbulence and avoids the crosswinds that can cause issues during takeoff and landing.

The airport runway design sees a spherical aesthetic utilized with optimal efficiency in mind in order to reduce the amount of space needed for airports and increase the overall level of safety. As seen with the concept created by Hesselink, the airport would free up space and even enable infrastructure to be situated below the design.
Trend Themes
1. Circular Runway Designs - Adopting circular runway designs can reduce wake turbulence, avoid crosswinds, and increase safety.
