Sustainability-Focused Pavilion Designs

Overtreders W's RAUM Pavilion is a Reusable Structure

RAUM is a temporary pavilion in Utrecht, the Netherlands, which Amsterdam-based design studio Overtreders W envisioned as a reusable structure that answers to principles of sustainability by obliging the ideals of the circular economy.

RAUM will be used for about three years, allowing for a space that can house meetings, workshops, lectures, and other events. The essence of the reusable structure directly counters the idea that architecture is meant to subscribe to permanency.

Overtreders W's construction allows for the pavilion to be modular — it can be easily disassembled and rebuilt in another place. In addition, the materials that were used for the reusable structure can be completely recycled and composted, closing the loop on the architectural difficulties regarding sustainability.
