Faulkner Architects Build a Getaway Home with Boulders in Mind

Local studio Faulkner Architects build a respectful house design on a rocky landscape in California, preserving the surrounding natural formations and elements. The structure is to be used as a "place to escape to" for AIDS research scientists. Since one of the client's main requests was the conservation of the boulders, the architectural studio built the Creek House "around and in deference to every rock."

For the respectful house's framework Faulkner Architects used concrete, wood and dark paneled elements that allow the structure to seamlessly integrate itself into the context of the rocky landscape. What's more, although the incorporation of the boulders might have been a tricky design process, in the end the rocky forms play into the restful aesthetic of the Californian nature-respectful house.
