Liu Jiaming Crafted an Electricity-Free Humidifier out of Clay

Liu Jiaming, an industrial design student, crafted a recycled clay humidifier using clay waste and 3D printing. The device is made out of clay bound together with clinker, a binding agent often used with slate and clay. The bottom of the humidifier has been glazed to protect it from deterioration when filled with water.

This recycled clay humidifier not only repurposes materials destined for waste, but it also requires no electricity to perform its task. Once the bottom of the humidifier is filled, the water slowly absorbs into the structure and travels upward as it infuses itself with the clay. Then, over time, the water evaporates into the air through all-natural processes. This results in an easy-to-maintain humidifier that requires no electricity or repairs.
