The Rebirth Magazine Rack Gives a Second Life to E-Waste for Print

It's a little bit ironic that a piece of fairly modern technology should be demoted to perform the basic low-tech task of holding a photos and text that are not digital. The Rebirth Magazine Rack is a hollowed out computer monitor of the old bulky CRT (cathode-ray-tube) variety that's been converted into an empty shell so that it functions as a cubby.

Low Yi Siu's design won a 2012 Red Dot Design Award for its clever reinterpretation of an existing object and its success in finding a way to make use of one of a multitude of discarded machine components. This particular plastic piece was mounted on four wooden legs with a significant tilt so that the resultant Rebirth Magazine Rack can stash stacks of documents, mail, books and other reading materials.
