A series of real life abstract works by Flora Borsi reconstructs subjects of abstract paintings as real people. Taking abstract artworks, Borsi worked backwards to produce photo-realistic digital images. The result is a creepy and surreal collection of images that are uncomfortably off.
Taking the exaggerated features of each abstract work, Borsi constructed realistic people with the same exaggerated features. Some feature translations like expanded eyes are not that off-putting but elongated necks and compressed facial features are quite disagreeable. Along with facial features, clothing and props were also copied. Distorted paper hats became realistic skewed hats and contour-less red masks became textured masks.
The resulting effect of all of these factors being copied is a realistic but slightly disturbing collection of images. Though the models drawn are not completely realistically, they are real enough to trick your mind for a second.
