The Radioactive Orchestra, founded by DJ Alex Boman and his colleagues at the Swedish research agency KSU, intends to bring radiation into the perceivable human range by way of music and graphic arts.
According to the electromagnetic spectrum, humans (and most mammals, in fact) are only capable of perceiving visible light. In an attempt to make radiation a more tangible, unambiguous concept, KSU and Alex Boman teamed up to turn radioactive decay into music and visual art. And so, the Radioactive Orchestra was born! By correlating a musical note with the release of photons during decay, the simple occurrence of irradiated matter breaking down suddenly turned into melodies and swirling graphics.
