Rachel Boxnboim Uses Clay to Create Fabric Molds

Rachel Boxnboim's ceramic tea sets are completely out of the ordinary. At first I wasn't too sure what I was looking at when I discovered her clay work. The tea set looks so much like the fabric she molds it with, that I was convinced it was fabric. However, this set is completely useable and made from 100% clay.

The Israeli born designer got the idea to wrap pieces of clay in textured fabric so that it would retain the same groves and patterns. Rachel Boxnboim then pours the softened lay into the fabric molds and ties it up before heating it up. The fabric is destroyed once introduce the heat, and only the fabric imprinted clay is left behind. The artist makes am association between hard and soft materials with her fused clay creations.
