Project RUBBER by Wout Wessemius is Curious and Unexpected

Project RUBBER is an unexpected series of furniture and outdoor structures made using rubber, specifically the inner tubes of tires. People were first introduced to the project through Chapli Table, but it has since grown to encompass seating, mirrors, sandboxes and even homes. A curious collection, Project RUBBER expands the use of the already elastic material to create visually striking designs.

Created by Wout Wessemius, a designer based in the Netherlands, Project RUBBER features everything from taut material to loosely draped for a softer rippling effect. Although the furnishings are impressive, the fact that Wessemius managed to cover his recreation house and other outbuildings is mind-boggling. As stated on Design Milk, "The best part of the material is that it’s long lasting and helps with heat insulation during the winter."
