Alexandra Serrano, Trend Hunter (INTERVIEW)

Serrano Explains the Prada Video Campaign

Former Editorial Intern Alexandra Serrano's top pick for a favorite trend is the Prada video campaign, which highlights beautiful haute couture clothing in a very creative and futuristic manner. Her passion for the world of fashion isn't just limited to the aesthetic beauty couture provides, but can also be seen in the way she discusses inspiring trail-blazing women in fashion. Other than describing Trend Hunter as trill (being true and real), Serrano also elaborates on the company by highlighting the nurturing and supportive environment of the TH staff and fellow interns.

How do you define cool?

I define cool as something that is strikingly original, so when something is really differentiated from everything else that's out there and really pushes things to move forward and sparks other ideas. That's when I think something is cool.

What is your favorite trend and why?

My favorite trend is filmvertising. One example is this futuristic fashion film in the Prada video campaign. It's pretty much set in a dystopic society in which there are drones walking around in haute couture clothing. The designs are really cool, and it's really interesting that it took such a surreal approach to fashion because it was previously thought to be mostly just textile based.

What is your secret to uncovering the best trends?

My secret to uncovering the best trends is finding blogs that are very niche and specific. Particularly by innovative individuals that go forward with exposing these new, innovative ideas.

What is your favorite part about working at Trend Hunter?

My favorite thing about working at Trend Hunter is definitely the people. They are all very encouraging and they create a very nurturing environment to sort of speak up and say what you think and really be yourself. Especially the editors. It's really encouraging to have people above you who are actually willing to listen, so it's very great.

What inspires or excites you?

What inspires or excites me is seeing prominent women in the field of fashion. I really like the idea of people like Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld and even Diana Freeland. Just any icons that took something, took an idea like jeans on a cover or ethnic people on a cover and brought it forward. They really influence culture.

What advice would you give to the business world?

My advice to the business world is to try and connect more with consumers directly. A great example of this is social media in general. Try to connect to see what people like through various mediums, crowdsourcing their reactions and then creating something as wonderful as Oscar PR girl, who I adore by the way.

What is the most remarkable way you see business changing?

The most remarkable way that I see business changing is in the competitive environment of the business world. I think that everyone's going to have to race to move faster and create remarkable ideas that will actually launch them forward.

Any last thoughts you'd like to share about Trend Hunter?
