Susan Cain's ‘The Power of Introverts'

Author and attorney Susan Cain has elaborated upon the value of reservation in her TEDTalks speech 'The Power of Introverts.' A shy girl herself, Cain relayed to the audience some of her most daunting childhood experiences, including a summer spent at a rowdy summer camp.

The Power of Introverts seminar highlights some of the most pervasive societal biases. Young students who opt for quiet and isolated settings are often discarded as outcasts and are moreover side swept by the loud and outspoken.

According to Cain however, there is much to be said for introverts, although they may not say it themselves. The conference drew audience attention to The Wharton School’s Andrew Brandt, a scholar who maintains that the reserved deliver better results in the workplace, and often allow creativity to flow from the bottom-up. With attention to Mahatma Gandhi and Theodor Seuss Geisel, two world renowned introverts, the short clip has certainly made the case for the merits of modesty.
