A poetry performance that took place at a TEDxLSU 2016 event encouraged audience members to interact with a piece titled 'Diamonds in Dystopia' by adding to it through a specially designed mobile app.
The original piece was made from fusing samples of some of creator Vincent A. Cellucci's favorite TED talk speeches. He did this by using an algorithm named 'Markov' to extract key phrases and themes from these inspirational talks, which were then rearranged into stanzas for the poetry performance. Diamonds in Dystopia was then opened up to the audience, with members invited to contribute meaningful words which were run through Markov to generate a phrase that Vincent A. Cellucci included.
Those in the crowd also experienced a visual rendition of the piece on their mobiles, which allowed them to click individual words that then created a unique sound pitch. With this, the event allowed for a more inclusive, imaginative and in the moment experience.
