Magnum's 'Pleasure Pod' Measures Satisfaction

Magnum ice cream's 'Pleasure Pod' was launched this past July at London's Westfield Stratford City center. Shoppers were invited to try the dessert brands Infinity bars inside the spherical receptacle. The venture went far beyond the average sampling however as it applied a series of analytical science techniques.

The Pleasure Pod incorporated in-depth research from the Wellcome Trust and from creative design specialist Matt Pearson. Those who tried the Infinity treats were immediately assessed based on their heartbeat, facial expressions, skin movement and swallowing. Embedded sensors collected data based on these factors and matched them with a 'Pleasure Portrait,' one that was subsequently displayed on the inside of the structure.

Taste testing is apparently taking a scientific turn for the better.
