Shoe Brand MAMUT is Accepting Plastic Bottle Payment for their New Line

While the city of Beijing is using plastic bottle payment for train tickets and Coca-Cola is using the eco-friendly currency to run their Happiness Arcade game, a Uruguayan footwear brand is accepting plastic bottle payment for their new summer line. In an effort to help keep local beaches clean, MAMUT is allowing their customers to pay for their shoes with discarded plastic bottles.

This environmental initiative will be in effect for two weeks this month. Through the socially conscious promotion, customers can offer bottles they've used and collected to account for up to 40% of the cost of their in-store purchase. Every bottle is worth $100 in Uruguay (or $4 USD) and can be put towards any piece in the MAMUT Native line.

This recycling project is the result of a partnership with Cooperative Juan Charpa.
