Pull-Tab Pill Boxes

Daryl Humphrey's Pill Box Design is Better Suited to the Elderly

This pill box design by Ravensbourne graduate Daryl Humphrey does away with traditional blister packaging in order to make getting at medication easier for the elderly. The pill packaging concept for Doxazosin—a medication for high blood preassure—considers that not everyone has sharp eyesight and nimble fingers.

Rather than opening in the traditional way, this pill box features a perforation and a series of strips that releases individual pills by a pulling motion rather than a popping one. This way, pills are safely protected until they are needed, although this system is far more considerate to those who have difficulty with fine hand movements. Once opened, the box also presents the information booklet in an easy-to-read way that requires no fumbling or folding. This clever pill box design won Humphrey a Student of the Year award at Ravensbourne.
