Philip Stearns Creates Masterpieces With the Help of Electricity

The Electrical Art series by Philip Stearns explores the state of ink before it disperses into liquid. Resembling sea creatures or paint-splattered masterpieces, the artist's compositions are created by exposing film to electrical currents.

Philip Stearns "produced his latest sequence of images by exposing instant film to high-voltage electricity, with results that evoke both macrocosms and microcosms – from galaxies to nerve clusters in the body." After the success of his experiment, the artist has launched a Kickstarter campaign to further develop his technique.

A Texas Native, the artist first studied engineering and physics at the University of Colorado at Denver before switching his major to music. He holds a MFA in music and integrated media studies at the California Institute of the Arts where he learned to fuse his flair for creativity with his past mathematical studies.
