Upcycled Flat-Pack Furniture

Pentatonic Creatively Repurposes Waste to Disrupt Consumption Culture

Pentatonic is a flat-pack furniture start-up that repurposes everything from DVDs and water bottles to cigarette butts and smartphones for the creation of its pieces. And by doing so, the company notes that it's on a mission to "radically transform consumption culture."

The first collection of flat-pack furniture from Pentatonic is set to launch at the London Design Festival, introducing consumers to chairs and tables that are made from recycled materials and need no tools for assembly. The pieces are also modular, which means that there's ample room for mixing, matching and customization to fit an individual's personal style preferences.

While many companies unfortunately show little concern for what will happen to a product when it reaches the end of its useful life, Pentatonic sets itself apart by telling consumers: "whenever you want, you can trade your products back to us, because we'll just make them into something new, over and over again."
