These Images of Giant Loads on Chinese Bicycles Are Fascinating

Upon first glance, you may think that these images of Chinese people pulling an oversized load on bicycles and rickshaws would be Photoshopped or manipulated in some way. You’d be right. The images are composed to bring attention to the sheer amount of manufacturing in Chinese cities.

These oversized load images are definitely not the real deal, and come from worldly photographer Alain Delorme’s photo series ‘Totems.’ The whole purpose of the oversized load photography is to show the results of the ‘Made in China’ phenomenon and how many goods are made and transported by migrant workers in China.

All I know is that I can barely stay upright on a bicycle when I have a heavy backpack, so I can’t imagine how much balance and focus it takes to navigate busy Chinese streets while carrying what appears to be around 100 milk crates or dozens of office chairs.
