Lamp-Lit Wildlife Series

Mikko Lagerstedt's 'Night Animals' Captures Creatures Stalking the Night

Mikko Lagerstedt's 'Night Animals' is a stunning photographic series of wild animals lurking the streets of Finland after dark. The series was inspired by an experience Lagerstedt had when he saw the silhouette of a large cat lit by a street light while talking a nighttime stroll in Porvoo, Finland. 'Night Animals' captures beautiful creatures like peacocks, owls and ostriches roaming about in a small town.

The eerie light given off by local lamp posts gives the pictures a peaceful and serene feel. The images are all composites, taking the backdrop and adding in the animals. I imagine this was a much safer process, rather than attempting to wrangle the beasts to get the perfect shot or burglar a zoo.
