Netflix's Updates Enocurage Shared Users to Register Their Own Accounts

Netflix is currently testing a feature in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru that prompts users who use a shared Netflix account to register for their own account. Currently, most users on the streaming platform share their accounts with family and friends beyond their households. Netflix's newest update in these three countries has two main features that are meant to address this situation.

Firstly, when users sign-in to an account that is being used across multiple households, they will be prompted with a brief message asking them to register for their own account. Secondly, when these users do register for their own account, they will be able to transfer all of their previous watch data and profile data from the user profile they used on their previous shared account. This means the user will not lose personalized information, which many Netflix viewers are protective of.

To further increase the incentive for users to register their own accounts, Netflix is testing the 'Sub-Account' feature that allows users to create a personal account that is connected to a separate main account and only be charged a small fee of $2.99 USD, as opposed to the full subscription cost.
