This Countdown Clock Will Count Down to NASA's 21st Century Missions

NASA is replacing its old countdown clock at Cape Canaveral in Florida with a new high-tech LED version that makes its debut to coincide with the launch of the Orion EFT-1 mission.

The display cost $280,000 to put together and measures 8 meters by 2 meters. Rather than just being a number panel, this countdown clock features a 1,280 x 360 resolution video display that is far brighter than the old clock. This display doesn't just show countdown time but includes images and video streams to keep the media and observers in the loop.

As for the old clock, it will be reassembled at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex where it will go on display in 2015.
