Mood-Enhancing Musical Appliances

Yuki Suzuki's New Project is Experimental and Whimsical

With a set of musical appliances, Japanese designer Yuri Suzuki is setting out to determine the existing correlation between sounds and mood. From a "singing washing machine" to "a musical kettle," the creative displays her experimental designs in a solo exhibition, called 'Furniture Music.'

Suzuki hopes to find a method of successfully harnessing and restructuring the domestic soundscape, in order to help bring about a harmonious and relaxing home or office environment. Based on a belief "that sounds that 'exist at the periphery' of modern life [...] can greatly impact our moods," Yuri Suzuki uses technology and design thinking to incorporate a whimsical and engaging component to her work.

Some of the musical appliances on display include "a dining table with an acoustic chamber" that amplifies movements and sounds, as well as a kettle that produces music when it's boiling.
