Musical Americana Heat Maps

The Movoto Real Estate Data Showcases American Music Preferences

These heat maps produced by Movoto Real Estate display musical preferences across the United States. In order to showcases specific likes and dislikes, Movoto divided the project according to genres such as alternative, country, folk, gospel, indie, jazz and metal.

Information was gathered and analyzed based on the statistics of the National Endowment of the Arts, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. The data was then showcased according to color with reds and oranges representing a heightened fondness for the particular musical genre at hand.

The findings are somewhat surprising. Residents of Florida were found to enjoy country sounds while Vegas natives expressed a proclivity for alternative songs, revealing musical tastes that may not have been predicted.
