Gesture-Tracking Keyboard Research

Microsoft's Motion Sensing Keyboard was Explored as a Prototype

In a recent research paper, Microsoft released its plans for a motion sensing keyboard. By taking an Apple keyboard and mounting a variety of motion sensors above the keys, the software company is experimenting with combining their traditional PC keyboards and trackpad gestures.

Similar to leap motion technology, no external sensors are necessary. This prototype appears to include an intuitive upgrade for their existing mouse, rather than having to replace it already.

The motion sensing keyboard comes on the heels of other recent announcements made by Microsoft on new ways to interact with PCs, like their Surface Touch Cover. While the motion sensing keyboard exists only in the research stage at present, Microsoft expressed interest in extending their keyboard gesture hardware.
