Mechanic Creature Installations

The 'Big Dipper' by Michael Candy Uses Fluorescent Components

The Australian artist Michael Candy has made a mechanical creature in India that uses both metal parts and fluorescent light bulbs.

The central part of the structure is made from metal pieces that look like a spine running straight down the middle of the machine. Michael Candy has then placed this elongated bulbs on either side to make up the legs, which have the ability to each move on their own. This is what brings the design to life, and makes it appear like a multi-legged spider or crab. The entire structure now sits in a warehouse in India, and has been labeled 'The Big Dipper' by Candy.

This design demonstrates the creative genius of certain artists, who are able to see scraps of metal and bulbs for a completely different purpose. Photo Credits: designboom, michaelcandy
